Clean Windows and Pure Hearts

Smiling? While washing windows?

I love looking out on the world through sparkling clean windows. But I have yet to discover the secret to streak-free glass. Which is why I only wash them when I am moving. (I'm not kidding!)

No matter what I use--vinegar, ammonia, Windex, Glass Plus, newspapers, paper towels, old t-shirts, or plain old elbow grease--they all leave behind messy smears and particles of lint. To top it off, if it rains the next day, the windows look like I did nothing--hours and hours of work undone in just moments!

Isn't that how it is with sin? No matter how hard we try, there are always streaks of selfishness and particles of pride marring our lives. However, in Colossians 1:22 Paul shares God's secret to washing away sin:

By means of the physical death of his Son, Jesus, God has made you his friends, in order to bring you, holy, pure, and faultless, into his presence.

1 John 1:7 confirms it:
The blood of Jesus, God's Son, purifies us from every sin.

Unlike the plethora of products and recommendations for cleaning windows, Jesus' sacrifice on the cross is the only secret to being cleansed from all sin. For many years I thought it was something I earned by my own diligent, but ineffective efforts. Thankfully, God showed me Ephesians 2:8-9:

For it is by God's grace that you have been saved through faith.
It is not the result of your own efforts,
but God's gift, so that no one can boast about it.

Have you found God's secret to a clean heart?

 Blessings!
Pam
