Stop! Have you noticed! It’s not as cold at night! Daylight is extending her time minute by minute each evening. Foggy mornings give way to sunny afternoons. Spring is announcing her arrival! She is making her grand entrance!
Look! Do you see them? Snowdrops have popped up their droopy heads, despite crystalline remnants of snow under the trees. Daffodils lift their cheery faces to the sun.
On the trees, tiny buds are swelling with the promise of fragrant blossoms. Bees buzz and hover in anticipation of the good nectar to come. Neighbors awaken from winter’s hibernation, happy to be able to see and chat with one another.
Listen! Do you hear them? Finches sing, sparrows chatter, and migrating robins scold. The first burgers and steaks sizzle on the grill. In the distance a lawn mower growls to life. Children shout and squeal with the simple joy of being outside after months spent cooped up. A motorcyclist whizzes by, silently exclaiming, “Free at last!”
I love how King Solomon described Spring in Israel!
“See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone.
Flowers appear on the earth.
The season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land.
The fig tree forms its early fruits; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance.”
Song of Solomon 2: 11-13
God has once again offered us His signs of new life, new hope, new beginnings! However, the greatest gift He offers us is the gift of new life with Him. Like the dead, dried up leaves of Winter, our old sinful life can be cast off forever when we accept the forgiveness Jesus’ offers us. We can break forth like the fresh green shoots of Spring when we turn over control of our lives to Him. He can make us new creatures! (2 Corinthians 5:17)
The season of singing has come! How appropriate! When we begin a relationship with Jesus, God often puts a new song in our hearts, like the birds expressing the arrival of Spring with songs we haven’t heard all winter! Perhaps we can join them! Let’s put away the dirges of sin. Let’s bring out the melodies of praise and rejoicing! Let's start a new season with Jesus!
Be encouraged!
