It’s been a long five weeks of pain. For three weeks I could
not sit at all without poker-hot, searing pain running from my lower back down
my left leg. I had heard people talk about sciatica pain, but in my opinion,
they underplayed its severity. All because of a little misstep on a sloping
trail while hiking.
My social life has consisted of going to physical therapy, the chiropractor, and our family doctor. Thankfully, things are finally improving. I can now sit upright and can drive myself places.
Occasionally, we all experience days when we just don’t feel well. Whether it’s a flare-up of a chronic condition or a common cold, there times when some TLC makes a world of difference. I thank God for my husband who has done everything in his power to help me feel better—cooking, cleaning, laundry, grocery runs—the list goes on and on.
But sometimes in the wee hours, when we just can’t find relief from our pain or sickness, we can feel so alone. That’s when it is good to remember that God is with us through those hard times. His Word contains many reminders of His love for us. Here are just a few verses I have found comforting and strengthening.
Isaiah 41:10 says we need not fear for God is with us. Being honest, ongoing pain or illness can be frightening! But we need not be dismayed, for God will strengthen and uphold us.
In 1 Corinthians 10:13 God promises He will never give us a trial we are unable to handle. As children of God, we can call upon His power at any time.
Jeremiah 33:6 reminds us that God will bring health and healing to His people. Although that complete physical healing may not occur in this lifetime, we can be assured that God has a plan and a purpose for what we are going through.
James 5:14 urges us to lean on others when we are sick. Ask for prayer! It can be difficult to call someone and say, “Will you please pray for me?” but God wants us to pray for others and to seek the prayers of others.
In Matthew 11:28-30 God promised to lighten the load we carry. When we come to him weary and burdened, He is gentle with us. He encourages us to learn from Him so we can find rest for our soul.
Are you going through a rough patch or a seemingly unending siege? You are not alone. Others have been there before you. Talk to them. And ALWAYS, ALWAYS God is with you. He never leaves; He never forsakes!
Be encouraged!
