At the Cemetery
By Pam

Monuments of grandeur
Or single blocks of stone
Both serve the same purpose--
To honor those we’ve known.
Messages and mottos
Are etched for all to see;
Eloquently telling
Of love’s tenacity.
Tales are told with nothing
But titles, names and dates.
Permanent inscriptions
Assert a loved one’s traits.
Engraved on marble tablets
Are Scriptures, poems, prayers,
Military records,
And lists of family heirs.
Flowers, flags and candles,
Some toys, balloons and wreaths
Decorate the tombstones
And say someone still grieves.
Scattered concrete benches
Invite us and suggest,
Linger for a moment;
Find harmony and rest.
Let us keep in mind, though,
There’s life beyond this place!
And when the trumpet sounds
We’ll see Christ face to face.
Graves will all be opened,
And no more tears will flow!
Christ will call the faithful
And with Him, we will go!
