God's Plans

My last post was entitled Making Plans. I shared that God has wonderful plans for us when we align ourselves with Him. He proved that to Dick and I this week.

We have not been content in retirement. We have felt purposeless, directionless. One evening about a month ago, Dick was praying earnestly for God to lead and to use us without us forcing our way into something. We wanted to be called. Well, God has quite the sense of humor.

The next morning Dick got a phone call asking him to serve First United Methodist Church of Mercersburg as an interim for three months! We looked at each other in amazement! This was an instant, albeit temporary, answer to our prayers!

We fell in love with the people at the church! Warmly welcomed by so many, we instantly felt This is a good fit for us! If only it weren’t temporary!

This past week he learned Dick will be remaining on as Senior Pastor and we will be moving to Mercersburg! God has answered our prayers in a way far greater than we dreamed! And He didn’t stop there!!!

In our neighborhood, you are not allowed to sublet your home. Although our assignment at First UMC is for a year at a time, we knew we couldn’t let the house sit empty. The previous owners did, and when we bought the house, we had to replace major appliances and make repairs due to damage by mice and disuse.

A few months ago, two houses in our development went up for sale and sold within a short time. Dick’s cousin and her husband were interested, but things didn’t work out. So, when we got the news about our move, we contacted them. They came to see the house and two days later decided to buy it!

What a wonderful whirlwind God has stirred up in our lives! We are amazed and a little shocked at just how fast God worked things out! We are so thankful for and excited about this new adventure God has planned for us!

Do you need guidance and direction? Pray! God has a great plan for you, and He will work it out! Just hang onto your hat!

Be encouraged!
