Proverbs 25:26 says, “Good
people who don’t stand against evil are like springs that have been polluted or
pools that have turned dirty and muddy.”
This quote from God’s Word paints a vivid mental picture of what He thinks of wishy-washy Christians. Romans 12:2 reiterates it: “Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God--what is good and is pleasing to him and is perfect.”
Are we truly living out this command of God? Are we being transformed by God or by the world?
Lately I have seen many posts on Facebook supporting the world’s view of what it considers appropriate sexual behavior. The posts that really bother me are shared by friends who I have heard declare that they are Christians but who are touting everything from gay pride to self-determined gender!
God’s Word is very clear on what He has determined is appropriate sexual behavior and what is sin. Adultery (Matthew 5:27-28), pre-marital sex (1 Corinthians 6:18), homosexuality (Jude 1:7), and a host of other behaviors related to sex are explicitly mentioned as falling into the category of immorality.
Aren’t we supposed to be the voices of truth in this world? Aren’t we to be courageous and speak against what God’s Word declares is sinful and destructive? Ezekial 3:18 declares we are watchmen for our fellow travelers in this world, called to warn them about sin. If we don’t speak up, how will people be saved from sin? Romans 10:14 asks, “How can they believe if they have not heard?”
The world wants us to believe we are being unloving if we don’t accept these sexual behaviors. Isn’t it far more loving to share with people when they are going down the wrong path than to let them believe that the lifestyle they have chosen is totally acceptable to God? Shouldn’t we warn them of the pain and destruction sin carries?
I believe God truly loves everyone of us and His greatest desire is for us to be saved from our sin—no matter what that sin may be. We are ALL sinners! We ALL need to be forgiven for the multitude of wrongs we commit. It is a grave injustice for us as Christians to keep to ourselves the great news that God took our list of sins and destroyed it by nailing it to Christ's cross! (Colossians 2:14) All that is required of us to receive that forgiveness is to trust in what Jesus did!
Let’s not be conformed to the world’s standards. Let’s not distribute or support false information about what is immoral. Let’s not let friends, family, or strangers “go to hell in a handbasket!” Speak up for God’s truth!
Be encouraged!
