New Birth

We are eagerly awaiting the birth of our first great-grandchild! Our grandson Kodey and his wife Mariah are going to be first time parents. The due date for the arrival of their little one was yesterday.

Not only are Kodey and Mariah excited (and a bit terrified) about becoming parents, but their parents are thrilled to become grandparents! Grandparents will soon be great-grandparents! And lots of siblings will shortly be aunts and uncles!  Everyone is looking forward to welcoming this little boy.

We are also thinking about the ways our lives will change with his arrival—daily living, special moments, goals, priorities, relationships, attitudes. Each one of us will be profoundly affected when this little boy comes into our world.

Though earthly, the dramatic effects of the birth of a child remind me of the life-altering spiritual changes that occur when a person begins a relationship with Jesus. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "Anyone who is joined to Christ is a new being; the old is gone, the new has come." (GNT). There is a profound spiritual rebirth that takes place, resulting in a new identity!

Jesus’ advent into our lives affects how we think, act, and speak. It changes relationships and lifestyles. His presence enlarges our view of ourselves and others. We are never the same! Ezekial 36:26 says, “I will give you a new heart and a new mind. I will take away your stubborn heart of stone and give you an obedient heart.” God is adamant that He can changes us–and desires to do so!

As much as the birth of a baby modifies the dynamics of our lives, the transformation that occurs when we ask Jesus to forgive and lead us is even more monumental! Have you experienced it? 1 Timothy 2:3-4 assures us, "God wants everyone to be saved and to come to know the truth." Welcome Him!

Be encouraged!
