With each new year many of us actively seek direction for what God has in mind for us to do. Perhaps a new job is in order. Sometimes a move is necessary. Maybe we are considering retirement. So many factors must be kept in mind but above all, we want to serve Jesus! Decisions, decisions, decisions!
According to The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Listening Hearts Ministry, and many other highly reliable Christian resources, there are several Biblical ways for Christians to determine God’s direction for our lives.
*We can talk to God about our fears, hopes, and desires, asking for wisdom and direction. (James 1:5)
*We can read the Bible, looking for principles for a
purpose-filled life. (Joshua 1:8)
*We can talk to our spouse and spiritually mature friends
who can offer guidance and insight (Proverbs 27:17)
*We can quietly wait and observe opportunities. (Isaiah
40:31)
*We can focus on the goal of glorifying God. (1 Corinthians
10:31)
*We can reflect on our unique spiritual gifts and how we can
use them to serve others. (1 Peter 4:10)
*We can look for ways to serve and reflect Christ within our
church, community, or even through daily interactions with friends and
neighbors, viewing every situation as an opportunity to minister. (1 John 3:17)
*We can look for signs of the Holy Spirit’s leading, such as
the same message coming to mind through different channels. (Isaiah 30:21)
God knows each person's needs and limitations, and He brings opportunities to serve Him in various ways. When we are concerned first about God's kingdom and what has His approval, then everything else will be provided. (Matthew 6:33) With patience and an openness to the Holy Spirit’s leading, we can discern God's will!
Be encouraged!
