Rescued

For the last month or so, Dick and I have been visiting the cats at a local animal shelter. We lost Watson a little over a year ago, so now we are ready to adopt another kitty.

Like every humane society, this shelter has rescued cats from places of loss, neglect, abuse, regret, grief, abandonment, and greed. The cats come in all sizes, colors, and ages. They come in various types of personalities, too—demanding, vocal, timid, afraid, loving, friendly, grumpy, bossy—and every combination. Many of the cats in the shelter are afraid, anxious, and lack trust in humans. But these shelters work hard at helping the cats overcome these fears.

Our visits have made me think about our different personalities and how Jesus wants us all to be rescued—whether we are timid or bold, bossy or mousy, friendly, shy, loving, selfish—and every good and bad combination thereof! What is it we all need rescued from? Jesus wants us to be rescued from sin—those things we do and think and say that we know are wrong but do, think and say anyway!

So, He stepped into our selfish, hurtful, nasty situation and willingly gave His life for us on the cross. “God rescued us from the power of darkness and brought us safe into the kingdom of His dear Son, by whom we are set free, that is, our sins are forgiven.” (Colossians 1:13-14)

How do we gain this forgiveness? Simply by asking God for it and putting our trust in what Jesus did for us. (Acts 16:31)

Do you need rescued?

Be encouraged!
