Designed by Him

“For we are God's workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus to do good works,
which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Ephesians 2:10

Workmanship is the result of labor and skill. As God's workmanship, we are not a random compilation of personality, intelligence, physical features, desires, strengths and weaknesses. God skillfully labored over our formation and designed us for His purposes.

Whose Standards Do We Uphold?

As I read Psalm 15, I felt God asking me to intentionally embrace the standards He sets in this short psalm for those who confess to have a relationship with Him. Though the words are few, the benchmarks are very high in comparison to the world’s standards.

Joy: Psalms 32 Style!

Many of us confuse joy and happiness. Happiness tends to be a feeling that ebbs and flows based on outward circumstances. Joy, on the other hand, endures despite what we might be facing.

Living in the Light

The light is changing. Although the forecasters predict snow for us today, there is something about the sunlight these days that says, Winter has lost its grip!

Perhaps it is the position of the sun in the sky or the lengthening of the daylight hours. Maybe it is the greater warmth in a ray of sunlight on the carpet or the angle from which it seems to emanate. Something about the light gives me hope that winter is only hanging on by a toenail.

Jesus says that He is the light of the world. (John 8:12) How is Jesus like a light? Jesus leads us out of spiritual darkness (John 8:12); Jesus reveals the way to God (John 14:6); Jesus shines God’s glory on God’s people (2 Corinthians 4:6)

Living in the light of Jesus not only shows us the way to God, it leads us away from sin and illuminates our souls. Just like basking in the sun’s rays at this time of year lifts my spirits and assures me that winter is on its way out, spending time with the Light of the world shines new perspective on lingering problems and spotlights God’s hand at work within me.

I am ready for the intensity of the sun to melt the snow and conquer winter’s confining cold. In the same way, I gratefully anticipate Jesus, the Light, shining into my heart and softening the crust around it. With the light of Jesus leading the way, I can face whatever challenges come my way.

How has Jesus, the Light of the world, been a light for you?

Blessings!
Pam
