Independence Day

Sometimes the real reason our nation celebrates on July 4th is shrouded behind a smokescreen of pyrotechnics and barbecues. In reality, freedom is a hard-won gift for which even fireworks, picnics, and parades fail to show proper appreciation.

However, the independence we experience when we put our trust in Jesus far exceeds even the freedoms we enjoy as citizens of the USA. In the moment of salvation we are set free from a far more insidiously enslaving master—sin.

  • “Because you belong to Jesus, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. “ Romans 8:2
  • “Christ has freed us so that we may enjoy the benefits of freedom. Therefore, be firm [in this freedom], and don't become slaves again.” Galatians 5:1

We are free from the power of all sin—gossip, worry, prejudice, lust—whatever enslaves us!

But are we living that freedom with the abandon that we live in liberty within the United States? Or are we still serving pride, fear, hate, and selfishness?

“So if the Son sets you free,
you will be absolutely free.”
John 8:36

Will you pray with me for an Independence Day within our hearts?

“Lord, you created me to live in freedom. Mostly I take this gift for granted. Inspire me to live in the freedom you intended, with a heart untroubled and with complete trust in You. Amen”—SacredSpace.ie

Blessings!
