A few weeks ago, we needed to move our heavy power-reclining
sofa. I thank the Lord for whomever invented sliders—the double-sided discs and
rectangles (smooth plastic on one side; felt on the other) that you place under
a piece of furniture to make it easier to move over carpet, hardwood, or other
flooring. When we positioned our sliders under the sofa, we could move it
anywhere we wanted in the room with just the puny strength of two 70 year olds!
From time to time throughout our lives situations can make us feel like we are trying to move some extremely heavy piece of furniture. Illness, loneliness, mountainous debt, heartbreak, and the consequences of sinful choices and poor decisions can become a burden we can no longer push away or carry.
It’s during those times when we can feel completely alone and overwhelmed. However, there is help available.
The Bible tells us in Psalm 68:19-20, “The Lord deserves praise! Day after day he carries our burden, the God who delivers us.” 1 Peter 5:7 explains why. “Cast all your care on Him, because He cares about you.”
Like the furniture sliders, when we put the Lord between us and our problems, we find the strength to get through those difficulties. God wants us to come to Him with our worries and cares. And He wants to help us because He truly loves and cares about us.
Psalm 55:22 says, “Cast your burden on the Lord—he will support you! God will never let the righteous be shaken!” He is a good, strong Father who encourages us to cast (throw off, discard) onto Him everything that is weighing on us and He will carry it for us. He will come between us and our heavy loads.
Do you need a spiritual slider today? “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” (Philippians 4:6.) For He has always loved you, and continues to show you His constant love.” Jeremiah 31:3
Be encouraged!
