Vacation Blessings

Dick and I recently visited Hawaii in celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary, which will be June 8th. This was our fourth trip to the Big Island. There were several places we had been to before and wanted to re-visit. We planned a loose itinerary but decided we would mainly just go with the flow.

We stayed at an Air B&B owned by the daughter of some friends. It was a lovely little place where the hosts had anticipated your every need—from bug spray to beach towels and cookware to condiments!

We enjoyed our time on the Big Island, playing in the ocean and Anaehoomalu Bay, seeing the dolphins at The Waikoloa Hilton, shopping at Kings and Queens Marketplaces, watching the waves crash against the rocks at McKenzie State Park, and breakfasting at an oceanside restaurant.

For us, though, one of the best blessings was attending worship at Grace Community Church. As is typical of churches on the island, the building is pavilion-like with an open front and back allowing congregants to see the beautiful surroundings and enjoy the breezes blowing through. We were so touched by the warm welcome, the deeply-spiritual worship, and the Scriptural and relevant message. We felt like we were part of their fellowship.

Fellowship is so important in our Christian life. BibleStudyTools.com has a great article on why: “The Bible emphasizes the significance of fellowship throughout its teachings, promoting a sense of community, mutual support, and shared spiritual growth among believers. Acts 2:42 tells us early Christians devoted themselves not only to teaching but also to fellowship. The Bible paints a rich picture of fellowship as a vital component of the Christian experience, promoting mutual support, spiritual communion, and shared devotion to God's principles.”

Hebrews 10:24-25 amonishes us: " Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another.”

So, next time you are on vacation, attend a local church. Like us, the fellowship just might be one of highlights of your trip!

Be encouraged!
