The Life-Changing Book

“This book changed my life.”

From a variety of sources, we can find lists of books people claim have changed their lives in dramatic ways. Though the lists vary, several books appear across the board—To Kill A Mockingbird, The Alchemist, How To Win Friends and Influence People, The Road Less Traveled, etc.

Then there is a category, not a specific book, simply called “Sacred Writings” that encompasses books like The Bible, The Quran, The Vedas, etc—religious books that readers feel contain incredible, invaluable, time-tested truths.

I can’t speak for any other books, religious or secular, but I do know that The Bible IS a life-changing book! The accounts of events, the lessons shared, the wisdom offered, the examples given, all ring true! When we apply them to our own lives, they ARE truly life-changing!

Christians claim The Bible is the Word of God, inspired by His Spirit, and written for our benefit. We hold it in high esteem and give it a special place in our worship services. When I was growing up, the big, white family Bible lay on the coffee table. Nothing was to be put on top of it. It was like a sacred icon. I remember gasping when it was discovered that my brother had taken a crayon and colored one of the pages! I just knew he was going to go to hell for that! If only, we had revered it enough to read it!

And there’s the rub. Any book is only valuable when it is read and its truths followed. As Christians we possess the greatest book of all! 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living, so that the person who serves God may be fully qualified and equipped to do every kind of good deed.”

If we feel The Bible is the most life-changing book in our lives, are we reading it? And, are we not just reading it, are we taking it to heart? If we do, The Bible WILL change us—it will be the most life-changing book we will ever read!

Be encouraged!
