Today is the last day of our 2025 Summer Wednesday Neighborhood
Bible Study. Dick started this group last year and it has been well-attended. One
of the ladies offered her air-conditioned garage for us to meet and we took
flyers around our mostly retired neighborhood and advertised by word-of-mouth. This
year we had 10 – 12 people each week, all (except Dick) ladies between 70 and 90!
We have two who come with walkers and a few with canes.
As these Christian women can attest, no matter how old we get, God’s Word is still alive and active and relevant to our daily living. (Hebrews 4:12) Our discussions during our Wednesday Bible studies often involve how we have seen the passages we are studying lived out over the years.
Psalm 92:12-14 assures us that “The righteous will flourish like palm trees; they will still bear fruit in old age and are always green and strong.” While our physical bodies may grow weak and weary, our spirits continue to grow and need the constant input of the milk of God’s Word. (1 Peter 2:2)
Our neighborhood group has served not only to encourage us in our walk with Jesus it has also strengthened our sense of community and care for one another, fulfilling a multitude of God’s commands in the Bible. We pray for each other, of course, but we also check in on each other with a phone call, a card, a visit, or a ready-made meal when someone has a challenge that keeps them from joining the study.
These gatherings prove we are never too old to learn. Proverbs 27:17 says iron sharpens iron. The Sanibel Lane Summer Neighborhood Bible Study has given each of us the opportunity to gather with a community of believers and learn from one another. Hopefully hearing about our group will inspire you to start a similar study in your neighborhood!
Be encouraged!
