This past Sunday a family in our church dedicated their sweet,
little daughter to Jesus. Everyone who meets this precious, smiling handful of
cuteness would agree, she is a princess. As part of the ceremony, the pastor
read: “You are God's chosen and special people. You are a group of royal
priests and a holy nation. God has brought you out of darkness into his
marvelous light. Now you must tell all the wonderful things he has done.” (1
Peter 2:9)
While it is easy to call this little miss “chosen” and “special” and to see her as a princess for Jesus, we may not see ourselves that way. Yet, as followers of Jesus, God considers us His chosen and special people. He sees every one of us as priests. We are part of His holy nation! When we ask God’s forgiveness and place our trust in Jesus as our Savior, we are brought out of the darkness of sin into God’s marvelous light! Just as the parents of the “little princess” dedicated their daughter to God, when we turn control of our lives over to Him, we are dedicating ourselves to God and His purposes for us.
What is expected of us in return? What are our responsibilities as nobles in God’s kingdom? God simply asks us to tell others about our experience with Him! Share with family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, the person sitting beside us in the waiting room—essentially, everyone—what God has done in our lives so they can see how much He cares, how much He loves us! Talking about how God has been at work in us creates a hunger in others to experience a relationship with God for themselves.
Jesus asked us to do the same when He said, “Therefore go and make disciples …“ (Matthew 28:19) Have you shared what God has and is doing in your life lately? Are you fulfilling your royal duties?
Be encouraged!
